In a significant operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Mangaluru Central Railway Station arrested a person accused of theft and recovered gold ornaments valued at Rs 13 lakh from his possession. The incident took place on Thursday when the police, during a routine patrol, intercepted a suspicious individual near platform number 2.
Search Leads to Recovery
Upon searching the man's shoulder bag, officers discovered a pouch containing several gold ornaments. When questioned, the accused could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the ownership of the items. Preliminary investigations suggest that the gold may have been stolen from a passenger on a long-distance train.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
The accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated to ascertain the exact details of the theft. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation is underway. The seized gold ornaments will be produced before the court for identification and return to the rightful owner.
This arrest highlights the vigilance of the railway police in curbing criminal activities at transit points. Commuters are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
