Theft Accused Escapes from Hospital, Caught in Chandigarh Within a Day
The Panchkula police in Haryana have rearrested a theft accused who managed to escape from their custody during a hospital visit. The incident unfolded quickly, with the accused being captured in Chandigarh within just twenty-four hours.
Accused Complains of Ear Pain
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Deepak from Chandigarh, was arrested on January 11. He faced allegations of stealing Rs 6,000 from a local vegetable vendor the day before. Srishti Gupta, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Panchkula, provided these details.
After his arrest, Deepak was produced before a court and remanded in custody for one day. On Monday, he complained of severe ear pain. In response, the police took him to the General Civil Hospital in Sector-6, Panchkula, for medical treatment.
Escape During Hospital Visit
While at the hospital, the police escort stepped away to purchase medicines from the pharmacy counter. Deepak seized this opportunity. He misled the escort and escaped by hitching a ride on a motorcycle outside the hospital premises.
This escape prompted immediate action from the authorities. The Panchkula police registered a separate case at the Sector 7 police station. They also formed a special team from the Crime Branch in Sector 19 to track down Deepak.
Rearrest in Chandigarh
The special police team worked swiftly. They located and rearrested Deepak at Chandigarh Sector 52 on Tuesday. This successful operation occurred within twenty-four hours of his escape, demonstrating the police's quick response.
Following his rearrest, Deepak was produced before the court on Wednesday. The court sent him to judicial custody. Additionally, the police recovered Rs 5,000 of the stolen amount from him.
