A businessman in Ludhiana lost a laptop, Meta smart glasses, and other valuables after thieves targeted his Mahindra Thar parked outside his home on Jassian Road late Thursday night. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the house.
Chemical Used to Break Window Silently
The victim, Manveer, stated that he had parked his vehicle as usual and forgot to take his laptop and a bag containing other valuables inside. Two suspicious men arrived on the street carrying flashlights and first checked other parked vehicles before zeroing in on the Thar. The miscreants allegedly used a chemical to break one of the rear windowpanes without making any noise, according to Manveer. A chemical was found spilled near the vehicle after the theft.
Items Stolen and Value
When the suspects opened the rear door, the vehicle's security siren began blaring. In haste, they fled with a laptop worth Rs 1.50 lakh, Meta smart glasses valued at around Rs 53,000, a gimbal, a tripod, a microphone, and other items. The total loss is estimated to be significant, though the victim did not immediately provide a full inventory.
Police Response Criticized
Manveer alleged that upon hearing the siren, neighbors came out of their houses. They called the police control room several times but received no answer for a long time. After considerable efforts, PCR personnel arrived at the scene. The police asked the victim why he had left his bag in the vehicle. Disappointed with the response, Manveer did not file a formal complaint at the police station. He also noted that his factory had been burgled in the past, with two laptops stolen.
