Tragic Road Accident Claims Three Lives in Udham Singh Nagar District
A devastating road accident in Udham Singh Nagar district has left three men dead after a school bus collided with their motorcycle on Friday evening. The incident occurred on the Sadadiya–Pratappur road near Rudrapur, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the three victims were returning to their home in Pratappur from Jhankat when the tragedy unfolded. Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene where the school bus struck the motorcycle with tremendous force, throwing all three riders onto the roadway.
The impact was so severe that despite immediate assistance from villagers who rushed the injured to the sub-district hospital, doctors declared all three dead on arrival. "The collision was catastrophic," confirmed a hospital doctor. "Even with prompt transportation to medical facilities, their injuries proved fatal."
Victims Identified and Investigation Underway
The deceased have been identified as:
- Devendra Singh Rana (24) - the motorcycle rider who worked as a mason
- Rajesh Singh Rana (26) - a daily-wage labourer and pillion rider
- Rajesh Singh Rana (34) - another daily-wage labourer and pillion rider
Police authorities, including Nanakmatta station house officer Umesh Kumar and Pratappur police outpost in-charge Rajendra Pant, visited the hospital to gather information from grieving family members. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination scheduled for Saturday.
Driver Flees Scene as Police Launch Manhunt
In a concerning development, the school bus driver reportedly fled the accident site immediately after the collision. "The driver is currently absconding," stated SHO Umesh Kumar. "We have initiated efforts to trace his whereabouts and have seized the damaged motorcycle as part of our ongoing investigation."
Police officials noted that it remains unclear whether the motorcycle riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, adding another dimension to the investigation into this tragic incident that occurred barely 100 meters from the victims' residence.
