The body of a tipper driver was recovered after two days in Karnataka's Bilagi taluk, police said on Friday. The driver had been missing since Wednesday evening, and a search operation was launched by local authorities.
Discovery and Identification
The body was found near a roadside ditch in the outskirts of Bilagi town. Police identified the deceased as Ramesh, a 35-year-old resident of a nearby village. He was last seen driving his tipper truck on Wednesday evening.
According to police officials, the body was in a decomposed state, suggesting he had died shortly after going missing. No signs of foul play were immediately evident, but an investigation is underway.
Post-Mortem and Handover
The body was shifted to the Bilagi government hospital, where a post-mortem examination was conducted on Friday. The medical team confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning, indicating the driver might have accidentally fallen into the ditch.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family members, who performed the last rites in their village. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are awaiting the final autopsy report.
Community Reaction
Local residents expressed shock over the incident. “He was a hardworking man who drove the tipper for a living. We never expected such a tragedy,” said a neighbor. The family has appealed for better safety measures on rural roads.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. The tipper truck has been seized for further investigation.
