Tirunelveli Police Execute Swift Rescue of Missing Class VIII Girl
In a remarkable display of efficiency and coordination, the Tirunelveli district police successfully traced and rescued a class VIII girl within just eight hours after she was reported missing from Ramayanpatti. The operation, which unfolded on Wednesday, involved multiple police units and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), culminating in the girl's safe recovery at Virudhachalam railway station in the early hours of Thursday.
Immediate Police Response and Investigation
The girl's parents filed a formal complaint at the All Women Police Station (AWPS-Rural) after she failed to return home on Wednesday. Acting swiftly on the instructions of Superintendent of Police V Prassanna Kumar, a special team was formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Raghupathiraja. This team included Inspector Mariammal, Sub-Inspector Sajeev, and Constable Muthu John, who launched an intensive search operation.
The police circulated the girl's photograph to neighboring districts and alerted the public, while also sharing her details with the Railway Protection Force in Madurai. The RPF promptly issued an all-stations alert, broadening the search network across railway lines.
Key Breakthrough and Rescue Operation
Inspector Mariammal played a pivotal role by spotting the girl on CCTV footage entering the railway station, which led to immediate alerts to the RPF. "We noticed the girl boarding the Tiruchengode-Palakkad train from Tirunelveli Junction and deboarding in Madurai, and then boarding the Pandian Express from Madurai to reach Chennai," explained a senior police official. This crucial information allowed authorities to track her movements accurately.
The RPF successfully intercepted the girl at Virudhachalam railway station. Upon being secured, she revealed that she was deeply upset because a classmate had stopped speaking to her, leading to emotional distress. In her distress, she had boarded a train intending to reach a relative's house in Chennai.
Safe Return and Official Commendations
Following the rescue, the AWPS team travelled to Virudhachalam to bring the girl back and formally handed her over to her relieved parents. Superintendent of Police Prassanna Kumar lauded the efforts of the All Women Police team and the RPF, emphasizing that their coordinated actions ensured the minor's safety and prevented a potential tragedy.
Another official highlighted the timeline of the operation, noting that the missing complaint was received at 5 pm on Wednesday, and the girl was rescued by 1:30 am on Thursday, showcasing the police's rapid response capabilities. This incident underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly minors, in distress situations.
