Guwahati witnessed two separate road accidents in different areas late Wednesday night, resulting in one fatality and one grievous injury.
First Accident Near Assam Legislative Assembly
The first incident took place near the Assam Legislative Assembly building in Dispur. The deceased has been identified as Bashab Raj Chutia, a resident of Dhemaji district. According to police, Chutia was an architect working in the city. He was traveling from the Khanapara area towards Ganeshguri when he lost control of his motorcycle after riding at high speed and crashed into an electricity pole.
A traffic officer from Dispur Police Station stated, "We saw a man lying dead on the road, and his motorcycle was found near a transformer. Both the motorcycle and transformer were on fire. Chutia sustained severe burns and died on the spot."
Second Incident in Bhangagarh
The second accident occurred in the Bhangagarh area, where a speeding vehicle coming from Khanapara crashed on the Bhangagarh bridge. Traffic police officers from Paltan Bazar Police Station arrived at the scene and discovered alcohol bottles inside the car during inspection.
Another traffic police officer from Paltan Bazar Police Station said, "According to witnesses, there were two people inside the car. After the accident, the main driver fled, and a search for him has been initiated. Meanwhile, the co-passenger has been admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). We have not yet identified the individuals."
Authorities are investigating both incidents, and efforts are underway to locate the driver who escaped from the second accident.
