In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Jalandhar police have arrested two individuals in separate incidents, recovering a substantial quantity of narcotics from their possession. The arrests were made during routine patrolling and intelligence-based operations across different parts of the city.
First Arrest: Heroin Seizure
In the first case, police apprehended a suspected drug peddler near the railway station area. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurpreet Singh conducted a raid and nabbed the accused, identified as Rajinder Singh, a resident of Model Town. During the search, officers recovered 10 grams of heroin from his possession. The contraband was seized in the presence of witnesses, and a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at the local police station.
Second Arrest: Multiple Narcotics
In the second operation, police arrested another individual, identified as Manpreet Singh, from the Basti Bawa Khel area. A police party headed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Harvinder Singh intercepted the suspect during a routine check. Upon searching, police recovered 8 grams of heroin, 5 grams of opium, and a small quantity of cannabis. The accused could not produce any valid license or permit for the possession of these substances. Consequently, he was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Legal Proceedings
Both accused were produced before the judicial magistrate on the same day. The court remanded them to judicial custody, and further investigations are underway to trace the source of the drugs and uncover any links to larger drug networks. Police officials stated that efforts are being intensified to curb the drug menace in the region, and similar operations will continue in the future.
The Jalandhar police commissioner has urged citizens to come forward with any information regarding drug trafficking activities, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential. The recent arrests are part of a broader drive by Punjab Police to combat the drug epidemic in the state.
