In a significant breakthrough, the Vizianagaram district police have arrested two inter-state offenders for their involvement in a massive property theft at the GMR residential quarters located in Rajam, Vizianagaram district. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rock Singh, aged 36, and Mohan Singh, aged 28, both natives of Madhya Pradesh. During the arrest, the police successfully recovered 470 grams of gold ornaments from the accused, marking a crucial step in the ongoing investigation.

Details of the Burglary and Stolen Valuables

The duo is suspected to be part of a four-member gang that has been involved in a series of property offences across the region. According to police reports, the gang specifically targeted locked houses at the staff quarters of GMRIT in Ponugutivalasa, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Santhakaviti police station. The burglars managed to decamp with valuable items, including a substantial amount of gold ornaments totaling 1,523 grams.

The incident occurred on the night of February 1, when the residents were away from their homes. It came to light on February 2 after the inmates returned and discovered the theft. The stolen items included:

  • 1,278 grams of gold ornaments from the flat of Dr. Nagesh
  • 245 grams of gold ornaments from the residence of Professor G. Madhava Krishna Reddy

Investigation and Evidence Collection

Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, police officials observed that the burglary gang, who were covered with face masks, entered the township through the rear compound wall and swiftly made off with the valuables. The police meticulously examined the footage and collected several clues from the crime scene, leading them to conclude that this was the handiwork of an inter-state gang. In response, special teams were formed to solve the case and track down the perpetrators.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

The two accused were apprehended by the police at the Buradapeta junction in Vizianagaram district when they returned to the town with the intention of committing further property offences. During interrogation, Rock Singh and Mohan Singh confessed to their involvement in the crime. The police have stated that the investigation is still underway, with efforts focused on apprehending the remaining members of the gang and recovering the rest of the stolen property.

This arrest highlights the vigilance and efficiency of the Vizianagaram district police in tackling inter-state criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residential areas.
