A tragic hit-and-run accident late Saturday night on the Hardoi-Unnao road has claimed the lives of two young labourers, sending shockwaves through their village in Unnao district. The victims, who were returning home from work on a motorcycle, were fatally struck from behind by a speeding car whose driver then fled the scene.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The incident occurred near the Raukarna intersection under the jurisdiction of the Makhi police station. Nitish Kumar, aged 18, and Mohit, aged 22, both residents of Raukarna village, were on their motorcycle when a car travelling at high speed rammed into them from behind. The impact of the collision was severe, inflicting critical injuries on both young men. Police confirmed that neither victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Failed Rescue Efforts and Police Investigation
Alerted by passers-by, police and emergency services rushed to the spot. The injured were immediately taken by ambulance to the district hospital. Tragically, doctors at the district hospital declared Nitish Kumar brought dead. Mohit, who was in a critical condition, was referred to the Hallet Hospital in Kanpur for advanced care, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
Speaking on the investigation, SO Yogesh Kumar Singh stated that postmortem examinations of the bodies are being conducted. He emphasized that police are actively working to identify and trace the car involved in the fatal hit-and-run. "Efforts are on to identify and trace the car involved. An FIR will be registered based on the complaint," SO Singh said. The police also revealed that the duo worked at a local brick kiln and were on their way home when the tragedy struck.
