Udupi police have arrested a 62-year-old man who had been on the run for 36 years in connection with a murder case from 1988. The accused, identified as Narayana Achari, was apprehended from a hideout in the Karkala taluk of Udupi district on Wednesday, following a tip-off.
Case Background
According to police, the murder occurred in 1988 in the Karkala area. Achari was allegedly involved in the killing of a man named Shivarama Shetty. The case was registered at the Karkala police station, and Achari had been absconding ever since. Over the years, the police had made several attempts to trace him but without success.
Arrest Details
Acting on a specific tip-off, a team from the Udupi district police conducted a raid and arrested Achari from his hideout. He was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody. The police stated that the arrest was a result of sustained efforts and coordination among various units.
