A young cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent, trained in Myanmar, has surrendered to authorities. The militant, identified as Dhananjay Asom, also known as Amarjyoti Moran, gave himself up in Mon town of Nagaland on Thursday.
Coordinated Handover to Assam Police
Following his surrender, security personnel handed Dhananjay over to Assam Police. The formal transfer occurred at Sonari Police Station in Charaideo district. This marked the conclusion of a carefully planned operation involving multiple agencies.
Background of the Militant
Dhananjay Asom is twenty-four years old. He hails from Nalani village under Pengeri Police Station in Tinsukia district. Police records indicate he joined the banned ULFA-I outfit in 2021.
After joining, he received extensive training. This training took place at ULFA-I camps located in Myanmar's Sagaing region. There, he learned to handle various arms and weapons.
Reasons for Surrender
According to police officials, health issues prompted Dhananjay to leave the militant organization. He grew tired of the difficult life within the group. Seeking a way out, he took refuge in Nagaland's Mon district approximately two weeks ago.
His intention was clear from the start. He wanted to surrender peacefully and return to normal life. The security forces became aware of his presence through specific intelligence inputs.
Multi-Agency Operation Ensures Safe Surrender
A senior police official provided details about the operation. "Following intelligence inputs, through the joint efforts of Charaideo Police, Nagaland’s Mon Police, 23 Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Military Intelligence, Amarjyoti Moran alias Dhananjay Asom surrendered to the Charaideo Police," the official stated.
The surrender did not happen by chance. It resulted from a coordinated, multi-agency effort. Security forces from both Assam and Nagaland worked together seamlessly.
Their collaboration ensured the process remained safe and orderly. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to reintegrate former militants into society.
