VHP Leader Condemns False Link to Madhubani Assault, Demands Probe
VHP denies role in Madhubani assault, calls for fair probe

The district president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Madhubani, Aditya Singh, has strongly condemned what he calls attempts by vested interests to falsely associate the organisation's name with a recent violent incident in the district. He asserted that the VHP does not support violence and demanded a fair investigation and strict action against the real culprits.

Details of the Chakdah Village Incident

The incident that triggered this controversy occurred on December 30 in Chakdah village, which falls under the Rajnagar police station area of Madhubani district. A video of the assault, where a man was allegedly beaten by a group, went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage. According to reports, the victim was attacked after being mistakenly identified as a Bangladeshi national.

Police Investigation and Findings

Madhubani Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogendra Kumar provided an update on January 2. He stated that the police social media cell promptly verified the viral video and traced its location. The investigation revealed crucial facts.

The victim is an Indian citizen, a mason from Birpur in the neighbouring Supaul district, and not a Bangladeshi national. Preliminary checks of his mobile phone also did not reveal anything objectionable, the SP added.

SP Kumar appealed to the public not to circulate misleading or provocative content on social media that could disturb communal harmony. He confirmed that the police are also probing the circulation of the viral video itself.

Current Status and Official Statements

As of Saturday, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajnagar police station reported that no arrests have been made so far. The First Information Report (FIR) in the case names two unidentified accused persons.

Reiterating the organisation's stance, VHP leader Aditya Singh distanced the group from the violence. He emphasized the need for a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice is served and to prevent the spread of misinformation that maligns peaceful organisations.
