Viral Video of Woman's Trafficking Allegations Triggers Police Investigation in Muzaffarpur
A disturbing video featuring a 28-year-old woman recounting her alleged experiences of trafficking and sexual assaults has gone viral across social media platforms, leading to a formal police inquiry in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. The clip has sparked widespread concern and calls for justice as authorities work to verify the claims.
Woman's Harrowing Allegations in Viral Clip
In the widely circulated video, the woman makes several serious allegations. She claims that her husband, identified as Happy Kumar, deserted her approximately one year ago after his demands for a dowry of Rs 50,000 and a motorcycle were not met by her family. Following this abandonment, she alleges she was sold to an orchestra group by her husband, where she faced further exploitation.
The woman further states that she was forced into physical relations by multiple men during her ordeal. She managed to escape from the orchestra group after three days and returned to her parental home in Muzaffarpur, where she has been residing since.
Police Response and Investigation Details
Town Station House Officer (SHO) Rohan Kumar addressed the media on Thursday, providing details of the ongoing investigation. According to SHO Kumar, the woman reported meeting a man named Rishi Yadav on Tuesday. Yadav allegedly took her under the pretext of attending a local fair, but instead transported her to a deserted field where she was raped. She later escaped and reached Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) via an auto-rickshaw.
The woman was admitted to SKMCH on Tuesday night in a condition where she was unable to speak. She was discharged the following morning and taken home. However, police have noted significant inconsistencies in her statements during their interactions.
"We are thoroughly verifying all aspects of this case, but the woman's father has declined to file a formal complaint at this time," SHO Kumar emphasized. He added that the investigation is currently proceeding based on the viral video and preliminary statements, as no official First Information Report (FIR) has been registered yet.
Challenges in the Case
The police investigation faces several hurdles:
- The woman's accounts have varied during different interviews with authorities.
- No formal complaint has been lodged by the victim or her family members.
- The alleged perpetrators named in the video have not been formally identified or located.
- Medical and forensic evidence is still being collected and analyzed.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue to piece together the sequence of events. The case highlights ongoing concerns about dowry harassment, human trafficking, and sexual violence in the region, while also underscoring the challenges police face when allegations lack consistent documentation.
