Vizianagaram District Rocked by Coordinated Burglaries, Gold Worth Lakhs Stolen
Residents of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh were left shaken after a series of coordinated burglaries struck the region on Sunday night. Miscreants targeted three locked houses in separate locations, making off with over 2.4 kilograms of gold and silver ornaments in a well-planned operation that has raised serious security concerns.
Rajam Town Apartment Complexes Targeted
In two separate incidents reported from apartment complexes under the GMR Township area in Rajam town, burglars employed forceful methods to gain entry. They broke open the flat entrances and forced open iron almirahs to access the valuables. From one flat, they stole over 290 grams of gold, while from another, they decamped with approximately 1,450 grams of gold. The precision and scale of these thefts suggest professional execution.
Police Response and Investigation
Vizianagaram district Superintendent of Police AR Damodhar personally inspected the crime scenes on Monday, underscoring the seriousness of the incidents. He announced that ten special teams have been formed to crack the cases and bring the perpetrators to justice. CCTV footage from the affected areas has revealed three unidentified suspects, providing crucial visual evidence for the investigation.
Police authorities suspect the involvement of inter-state criminal gangs in these burglaries, given the sophisticated nature of the operations. There is also a strong belief that the gangs may have had local assistance, which facilitated their movement and knowledge of the targeted houses.
Rural Area Theft in Vepada Mandal
In another incident on the same day, unidentified burglars targeted a locked house at Ramaswamipeta in Boddam village under Vepada mandal. They looted over 400 grams of gold ornaments and approximately 250 grams of silver ornaments from the residence. The homeowners, farmers JV Ramana and his wife Mutyalamma, had gone to their agricultural fields after securely locking their home.
Upon returning, they were devastated to find their door broken and their valuable ornaments missing. The couple revealed a tragic timing element to the theft: they had already applied for a bank locker for safe custody of their ornaments, but the theft occurred before the locker could be allotted to them.
Forensic Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case in connection with the Vepada mandal theft and have deployed comprehensive investigative resources. A forensic team and a dog squad have been mobilized to the scene to gather physical clues and trace evidence that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the culprits.
The simultaneous nature of these burglaries across different locations in Vizianagaram district points to a coordinated criminal effort. Local residents are urged to remain vigilant and enhance their home security measures while police intensify their search operations.
