Woman Caught Smuggling Heroin into Ludhiana Jail

Security personnel at Ludhiana Central Jail made a significant interception on Tuesday. They caught a woman red-handed while she tried to smuggle heroin into the prison facility. The incident occurred during a routine family visit, highlighting ongoing security challenges.

Details of the Smuggling Attempt

The accused woman has been identified as Mandeep Kaur. She resides in Gill Colony, Ludhiana. Jail staff discovered the illicit substance during a standard security check. Mandeep Kaur had come to meet her brother-in-law, Manjeet Singh, who is currently lodged as an undertrial in a murder case.

How the Heroin Was Concealed

Investigating officer ASI Dinesh Kumar provided specific details about the concealment method. The woman had hidden the heroin inside a black envelope. She carefully wrapped and sealed the envelope with black tape to avoid detection by security personnel.

Upon closer examination, jail staff found the envelope folded into three distinct layers. The upper portion was completely covered with black tape. The heroin was cleverly hidden between the layers of the lower two folds, making it difficult to spot during initial checks.

Recovery and Legal Action

After recovering the envelope, authorities immediately weighed the contents. The recovered contraband totaled 20.20 grams of heroin. This quantity represents a significant seizure that could have entered the prison system undetected.

Jail authorities promptly handed Mandeep Kaur over to the local police. Assistant Superintendent Vijay Kumar of Ludhiana Jail filed the official complaint. Based on this complaint, police registered a case under the stringent NDPS Act at Division Number 7 police station.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are now investigating several aspects of this case. They are examining whether this was an isolated attempt or part of a larger smuggling network. Authorities are also questioning the accused to determine the intended recipient within the jail premises.

This incident serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required in prison security systems. Despite rigorous checks, individuals continue to attempt smuggling contraband into correctional facilities. The successful interception by Ludhiana jail staff demonstrates their alertness and commitment to maintaining prison security.
