A tragic incident at Nagpur's Ajni railway station on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman who fell from a moving train. The victim has been identified as Swapnali Patil, a resident of Ghogli.
Details of the Tragic Fall
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the accident occurred around 9:05 am when the Pune–Nagpur Express arrived at Ajni station. Swapnali Patil was travelling with her family on the train. As the train was still slowly moving, she attempted to alight but reportedly lost her balance.
She fell into the dangerous gap between the train and the platform, sustaining serious injuries. Immediately after the fall, she was rushed to the Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Police Investigation and Probe
The GRP has initiated a probe into the incident. A preliminary investigation suggests the fall was accidental. The police have registered a case of accidental death.
Constable Omprakash Selote has been assigned the task of ascertaining the exact circumstances that led to this unfortunate event. The investigation will look into all factors surrounding the incident at the railway station.
Separate Incident on Railway Tracks
In an unrelated case, the body of an unidentified man was discovered on the Itwari–Kalamna railway track on Tuesday. Police suspect the man was hit by a passing train. The Shanti Nagar police have also registered a case of accidental death.
Authorities are making efforts to establish the identity of the deceased. A key identifying mark is a tattoo of the name "Priyanka" on his left arm, which police hope will aid in the identification process.
These back-to-back incidents have highlighted the persistent safety concerns on Indian railways, particularly during boarding and alighting, as well as the dangers posed by railway tracks. The GRP continues to investigate both cases.
