A 26-year-old labourer died of electrocution while working on Namma Metro lighting infrastructure near Trinity Station in Bengaluru on Thursday, June 26, 2026. The incident occurred around 11:30 am when the worker came into contact with a live electrical source during earth pit excavation work.
Details of the Incident
According to a statement from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the worker was part of a team installing lighting poles at the station. While digging an earth pit, he accidentally touched an exposed electric wire, causing a fatal shock. Colleagues immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
BMRCL officials said the victim was an employee of a private contractor engaged for the project. The corporation has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and promised strict action if safety lapses are found.
Impact and Safety Concerns
The death has raised questions about safety protocols at Namma Metro construction sites. Labour unions have demanded compensation for the family and better enforcement of safety measures. BMRCL has assured full cooperation with the police investigation and said it will provide financial assistance to the bereaved family.
This is the second such incident in Bengaluru's metro expansion project this year, prompting calls for a safety audit of all ongoing works.
