A tragic incident in Maharashtra's Akola district has highlighted the devastating consequences of familial opposition to relationships. A young couple was found dead on a railway track this week, with police suspecting they took their own lives after facing severe resistance from their families.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The bodies of the couple were discovered on Wednesday, December 31, along the railway tracks near Kasura village. The location is close to their home in Sheld village, which falls under the Balapur taluka of Akola district. Local residents were the first to spot the grim scene and immediately informed the Urul police station.
The deceased have been identified as Akshay Suresh Tharkar, aged 32, and Akshada Mohan Shejole, aged 24. Both were residents of Sheld village. Akshay worked as a driver, while Akshada was employed as a teacher at a school in Antri.
Background and Police Investigation
Preliminary investigations by the police reveal a heartbreaking backstory. The two individuals had been in a relationship for several years and had expressed a desire to get married. However, their union faced what is described as strong and severe opposition from both their families.
Investigators believe that the constant pressure and distress from this familial rejection ultimately led the couple to take the extreme step. The current theory is that they ended their lives by coming under a moving train.
A police team, led by Urul police station in-charge Pankaj Kamble and including PSI Ganesh Kayande, swiftly arrived at the location. After conducting the necessary spot panchnama (inquest), the bodies were sent to the district general hospital in Akola for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Official Response and Community Impact
The Urul police have officially registered a case of accidental death while the investigation continues. As part of the probe, statements from relatives and friends of the couple are being recorded to build a clearer picture of the circumstances and the extent of the family opposition they faced.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local communities of Sheld and Kasura villages. It raises painful questions about the pressures young people face in matters of marriage and relationships, particularly in the face of rigid familial or societal disapproval. The tragedy underscores the need for dialogue and understanding within families to prevent such extreme outcomes.
