Rajahmundry: Police on Friday took YSRCP MLC Anantha Satya Udaya Bhaskar into custody outside the district court in Rajahmundry. He is accused in the murder of his driver, Veedhi Subrahmanyam, and had earlier been granted bail.
Fresh Case Registered
A fresh case was registered at Kakinada II Town police station on April 20 for allegedly threatening and inducing witnesses in the murder trial, leading to his arrest.
One Durga Siva Prasad Arava lodged a complaint stating that he, his brother Arava Manikanta, and friends Mummidi Venkatesh and Savalam Pawan Kumar — all witnesses in the case — were wrongfully confined by associates of the MLC. The accused, including Kadiyala Chinna Babu, Kadiyala Satish, and Maganti Rambabu, allegedly took them to a flat in Siddhartha Nagar, Kakinada, where they were threatened and pressured to give false evidence in favour of Anantha Babu and his wife, Anantha Lakshmi Durga. They were warned of dire consequences if they refused and offered ₹1 lakh each. Out of fear, they accepted the money but later resolved to tell the truth in court.
Later that evening, Venkatesh was also brought to the flat, threatened, and given ₹1 lakh. The four witnesses, apprehending danger to their lives, lodged a formal complaint with police.
Prosecution Seeks Bail Cancellation
Meanwhile, special public prosecutor Muppalla Subba Rao said the prosecution has petitioned the court to cancel Anantha Babu's bail, arguing he violated conditions by attempting to influence witnesses. "The manner in which the witnesses were threatened and bribed shows a deliberate attempt to interfere with justice. A frightened or bribed witness cannot depose freely. That is why the law treats witness intimidation and tampering as serious grounds for cancellation of bail," he said.
