Fatal Accident During Muharram Procession in Ratlam

Three people were killed and 10 others injured when a tazia, a replica of the tomb of Imam Hussain, came into contact with a live power line during a Muharram procession in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the city's old area when the tazia, being carried by devotees, touched an overhead electricity cable, causing electrocution.

Immediate Response and Casualties

According to police officials, the victims were rushed to the district hospital, where three were declared dead on arrival. The injured are receiving treatment, with two reported to be in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as local residents participating in the procession.

Action Against Negligent Employees

Taking serious cognisance of the incident, the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company (MPPTCL) suspended one of its employees and dismissed two contractual labourers for negligence in duty. An official statement said that the power line should have been de-energized or insulated before the procession, but the responsible staff failed to take necessary precautions.

District administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The collector said that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
