Activists and Politicians Demand Permanent Rehabilitation for Railway Slum Dwellers in Mumbai
In a significant development following the railway ministry's decision to halt demolition activities, a delegation of activists and political leaders has approached Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with a pressing demand for the permanent rehabilitation of slum dwellers residing along the Kurla-Trombay railway line. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, highlighted the urgent need to address the precarious situation faced by thousands of impoverished families.

The railway ministry had previously issued a stay on the demolition of slums along this critical railway corridor, citing serious safety and operational concerns. Patel, who was instrumental in securing the temporary stay from the railway ministry, reiterated that the core issue remains unresolved. The delegation's primary request to Chief Minister Fadnavis was to initiate a formal process for providing permanent rehabilitation, ensuring that no family is displaced without adequate housing.
