Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar chaired a review meeting on Wednesday with senior police officials and the Nasha Mukti Morcha to evaluate the progress of the Punjab Government's "War Against Drugs" campaign. The meeting was attended by Dikshit Dhawan, Majha zone in-charge of the Nasha Mukti Morcha, along with his team members.
Review of Anti-Drug Operations
The meeting focused on assessing the effectiveness of actions taken against drug traffickers in the city. Participants discussed strategies to strengthen the anti-drug campaign, emphasizing the need to empower Station House Officers (SHOs) to identify and eliminate drug peddlers at the grassroots level in localities and neighbourhoods. Strengthening cooperation between the police and the public was highlighted as a key strategy to tackle the drug menace effectively.
Community Mobilization Efforts
Dikshit Dhawan informed the gathering that volunteers of the Nasha Mukti Morcha are actively mobilizing people in villages and urban areas against drug abuse and narcotic trafficking. The Morcha aims to raise awareness and encourage community participation in reporting drug-related activities.
The meeting underscored the importance of a collaborative approach between law enforcement and civil society to curb the supply and demand of illicit drugs. The Police Commissioner urged all stakeholders to intensify efforts and ensure the campaign reaches every corner of the city.
