A woman gave birth to a baby girl on board the Mumbai-Amritsar Paschim Express (No. 12925) in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday after she experienced labour pains during the journey. The prompt response from Railway staff and cooperation from fellow passengers ensured a safe delivery, according to officials.

Incident Details

The woman, who was travelling from Surat to New Delhi in the S6 coach with a relative, developed labour pain when the train was between Ratlam and Khachrod stations. A co-passenger immediately alerted the on-board Railway staff about her condition, said Mukesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer of the Ratlam Division (Western Railway).

Upon receiving the information, Railway staff promptly arrived at the coach and provided necessary assistance, helping the woman deliver a baby girl. The mother and newborn were provided with dry clothes and blankets.

Disembarkation and Medical Care

After the train arrived at Khachrod station, the woman, accompanied by her father-in-law, disembarked with the baby with the help of Railway staff. The mother and her daughter were then sent for necessary medical treatment, the official added.

Mukesh Kumar stated, “The timely and prompt action by the Ratlam Division of WR, sensitivity of the Railway staff, and cooperation of fellow passengers helped in the safe delivery of the child.” He further added, “This incident underlines the Railway’s commitment to humanitarian service and passenger safety.”
