The Karnataka state government has sanctioned the payment of Rs 1,271.92 crore in arrears to officers and employees of the four Road Transport Corporations (RTCs), including the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). This amount pertains to the salary hike that was implemented in 2020.
Arrears for 11 Months
The approved arrears cover a period of 11 months, providing financial relief to the serving staff of BMTC and other RTCs. The decision comes after prolonged demands from employee unions and follows the state government's review of the financial implications.
Background of the Salary Hike
In 2020, the state government had announced a salary revision for RTC employees, but the disbursement of arrears was delayed due to budgetary constraints. The current approval ensures that employees will receive the pending amounts, which are expected to be disbursed soon.
The four RTCs include BMTC, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC). All these corporations will benefit from the arrears payment.
Employee unions have welcomed the decision, stating that it will boost morale and provide much-needed financial support. The government has directed the corporations to process the payments without further delay.
