Bengaluru Techie Dies by Suicide After Astrologer's Marriage Prediction
A 27-year-old software engineer in Bengaluru allegedly died by suicide, hanging herself in her room at her residence, reportedly distressed over an astrologer's prediction about her marriage, police said on Monday.
Incident Details and Family Background
The tragic incident took place on Friday in MEI Layout, Bagalagunte, according to police officials. The deceased has been identified as Vidyajyoti, who was in a relationship with a man from another caste. Police confirmed that both families had consented to the marriage in accordance with her wishes, indicating no apparent opposition to the union from either side.
Astrologer's Prediction and Ritual
Citing a preliminary inquiry, a senior police officer revealed that the young woman's parents had recently consulted an astrologer regarding the proposed marriage. The astrologer allegedly predicted that there could be significant misunderstandings between the couple approximately two years into the marriage, possibly leading to separation or divorce.
To avert this predicted outcome, the astrologer reportedly advised performing a nine-day ritual, which the family undertook as suggested. The ritual was intended to counteract the negative prediction and ensure marital harmony for the couple.
Tragic Outcome on Ninth Day
However, on the ninth and final day of the ritual, Vidyajyoti allegedly went to her room and died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan when her parents were not at home. The incident came to light in the evening when she failed to respond despite repeated knocks on her door.
Her father later broke open the door and discovered her hanging, according to police statements. The timing suggests a possible connection between the completion of the ritual and her extreme distress over the astrologer's prediction about her future marriage.

The Bagalagunte police have registered a case of Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and are conducting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
