Bhopal: The state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hemant Khandelwal, on Thursday revoked the appointment of the party's Bhind district president, Sajjan Singh Yadav, for allegedly disregarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel. Yadav had been appointed to the post just a fortnight ago. On Wednesday evening, he led a vehicles' rally from Gwalior to Bhind to demonstrate his political strength.
PM Modi's Appeal on Fuel Conservation
Since Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi has been repeatedly urging citizens to conserve fuel and refrain from purchasing gold in light of the ongoing energy crisis stemming from the US-Israel versus Iran conflict. In a bid to set an example, the Prime Minister reduced his own convoy to just two vehicles. Following his lead, other Union ministers, including Home Minister Amit Shah, also scaled down their convoys. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav similarly complied with the appeal.
Violation of the Appeal
Despite the Prime Minister's clear directive, the Bhind district Kisan Morcha president, Sajjan Yadav, organized a 'welcome' rally featuring a cavalcade of more than 120 luxury vehicles. Taking note of this blatant disregard, Khandelwal instructed the state Kisan Morcha president, Jaipal Singh Chopra, to investigate the incident.
Action Taken
On Thursday, Chopra issued a formal letter to Sajjan Singh Yadav, stating: "We came to know through newspapers and social media that yesterday on May 13, 2026, you led a Kisan Morcha procession with hundreds of vehicles that traveled from Gwalior to Bhind. This shows your disregard for the Prime Minister's appeal to save fuel. The state organization has taken this action of yours seriously and considered it as indiscipline. Therefore, with orders from the BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal, the appointment of Sajjan Singh Yadav, Bhind district Kisan Morcha president is being cancelled."
The cancellation of Yadav's appointment underscores the party's commitment to adhering to the Prime Minister's call for fuel conservation, especially during times of global energy uncertainty.
