West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of looting over 100 seats in the recent elections, while asserting that her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), would bounce back strongly in future polls. Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, Banerjee claimed that the BJP had used unfair means to win seats, including intimidation and manipulation of electoral rolls.
Mamata's Allegations
Banerjee stated that the BJP had stolen more than 100 seats from the TMC through unethical practices. She alleged that the central government and the Election Commission of India were biased in favor of the BJP. "We have evidence of how the BJP looted our seats. They used money power, muscle power, and government machinery to influence voters," she said.
Response to Election Results
The TMC supremo acknowledged the setback but expressed confidence that her party would recover. "We lost some battles, but we will win the war. The people of West Bengal are with us, and we will bounce back stronger," she declared. Banerjee also thanked the voters who supported the TMC and urged party workers to remain united.
Call for Unity
Banerjee called upon opposition parties to come together to fight the BJP's alleged authoritarianism. She stressed the need for a united front to protect democratic values and federal structure. "The BJP is trying to destroy democracy. All like-minded parties must join hands to save the country," she added.
The Chief Minister also criticized the BJP's handling of the economy and unemployment, saying that the central government had failed to deliver on its promises. She assured that the TMC would continue to work for the welfare of the people of West Bengal and the nation.
Banerjee's remarks come amid a political showdown between the TMC and the BJP, which has been trying to expand its footprint in West Bengal. The TMC has accused the BJP of attempting to destabilize the state government through central agencies and defections.
