BJP Unveils Sweeping Promises for Bengal Ahead of Elections

In a major political push, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have laid out a comprehensive vision for West Bengal, targeting key voter concerns ahead of the state elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed rallies across the state as part of the party's Poriborton Yatra campaign, making significant pledges on employment, women's welfare, and economic revival.

Key Announcements by Amit Shah

Speaking at a rally in Mathurapur, South 24 Parganas, Amit Shah promised a transformative agenda if the BJP forms the government. He announced a special Rs 5,700 crore package dedicated to women's welfare, aimed at ensuring dignity, safety, economic independence, and social security. Shah also committed to filling all government job vacancies within one year, with a specific deadline of December 26 for recruitment processes. Additionally, he assured the implementation of Seventh Pay Commission benefits for state employees within 45 days of assuming office.

Shah criticized the current Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of prioritizing dynastic politics over public welfare. "Trinamool does not want welfare of people, but only thinks of ways to benefit Abhishek Banerjee. They want to make him CM," he said, referring to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew. He further alleged that the state government allocated Rs 5,700 crore for madrassas but only Rs 80 crore for science and technology, highlighting what he called appeasement politics.

Economic and Employment Promises

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing a rally in Howrah's Amta, outlined a long-term plan to tackle Bengal's economic challenges. He pledged to make the state unemployment-free and debt-free within 10 to 15 years. Singh pointed out that every child in Bengal is born with a debt burden of Rs 81,000 due to the state's financial crisis, vowing to reverse this trend through BJP governance.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking in Birbhum's Hasnan, contrasted Bengal's economic performance with his own state. He noted that while Maharashtra receives 37% of India's foreign direct investment (FDI), Bengal gets a mere 0.6%. "Seven thousand companies left Bengal in five years, and 37 listed firms downed their shutters. Bengal has fallen from third to 22nd position in contribution to the country's GDP," Fadnavis stated, criticizing the TMC government's handling of investments.

Political Criticisms and Broader Vision

Amit Shah also took aim at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's stance on national issues, accusing her of hypocrisy. He mentioned her refusal to attend events like the Ram Mandir inauguration, Kashi Vishwanath corridor, or Mahakal corridor, despite her recent temple-building initiatives. Shah emphasized that the BJP's Poriborton Yatra is not just about changing the chief minister but about transforming Bengal into a state free from infiltration, corruption, syndicates, and insecurity.

On the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Shah claimed that Hindu refugees from Bangladesh would have already received citizenship if not for Banerjee's opposition. "With Modi government at the Centre, no one can take their citizenship away," he asserted, reinforcing the BJP's commitment to the law.

These announcements come as the BJP intensifies its campaign in Bengal, positioning itself as an alternative to the TMC's 15-year rule. The promises focus on core issues like jobs, women's safety, and economic development, aiming to resonate with voters disillusioned with current governance.
