NEW DELHI: Lunsing Teron of the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious in the Howraghat (ST) constituency during the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. He secured a total of 1,06,229 votes, defeating his closest rival, Congress candidate Sanjeeb Teron, by a substantial margin of 78,106 votes.

Sanjeeb Teron managed to garner only 28,123 votes, while independent candidate Sarkiri Rongphar finished in third place with 14,659 votes. A total of seven candidates contested from the Howraghat constituency, along with the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
Voter Turnout and Demographics
The constituency had 1,89,616 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election. Among them, 93,420 were male, 96,191 were female, and five belonged to the third gender.
Previous Election Results
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the Howraghat seat was won by Dorsing Ronghang of the BJP, who secured 57,927 votes. The runner-up was Sanjeeb Teron of Congress with 26,244 votes, giving Ronghang a winning margin of 31,683 votes.

The 2026 Assam Assembly elections were conducted in a single phase on April 9, with vote counting taking place on May 4. This year, assembly elections were held in four states and a Union Territory. Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry went to polls on April 9, while Tamil Nadu voted on April 23. West Bengal held elections in two phases, on April 23 and April 29.
