A birthday celebration turned tragic in Navsari after a 27-year-old car dealer was allegedly chased and stabbed to death by four men in a crowded Ring Road area late on Thursday night. The victim, who sustained multiple injuries in the brutal attack, died during treatment at Navsari Civil Hospital on Friday morning, with police suspecting an old business rivalry as the motive behind the murder.
Victim Identified
The deceased was identified as Yasin Meman, a resident of Navinnagar area in Navsari. He lived with his parents, wife and three children and earned his livelihood through the buying and selling of used cars.
Birthday Celebration Turns Deadly
According to police, Meman had gathered with his friends — Nabil, Ayan and Farhan — near Ornet Apartment around 10.30 pm to celebrate his birthday. Soon after the cake-cutting ceremony, a car arrived at the spot and four persons, including the main accused identified as Tipu, stepped out.
Police said Tipu allegedly attacked Meman with a sharp-edged weapon, while the three others assaulted him with kicks and punches. In an attempt to save himself, Meman ran towards the parking area of a nearby apartment, but the attackers chased him there as well.
Brutal Assault
Investigators said Tipu repeatedly stabbed Meman on different parts of his body, including his legs and hips, while the other accused continued to assault him. The attack triggered panic in the crowded area, and a large number of people gathered at the spot.
Sensing trouble, the four accused fled the scene in their car. Locals immediately rushed the injured Meman to Navsari Civil Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Statement and Motive
Before his death, Meman recorded a statement with Navsari Town police, based on which an FIR was registered. In his statement, Meman alleged that Tipu, who was also involved in the used car business, had previously threatened him over financial disputes related to car dealings. He claimed he had recently decided to sever business ties with Tipu, which allegedly led to the deadly attack.
Police are now investigating the case and have launched a search for the four accused.
