Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, the chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), was appointed additional secretary in the Union Home Ministry on Thursday, according to an order issued by the Personnel Ministry. Sitaram, a 2001-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, was already serving as an additional secretary in the home ministry before his recent appointment as CBSE chief last month.
Appointment Details and Background
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Sitaram's appointment as additional secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. He will hold the additional charge of the CBSE chairperson post until a regular incumbent is appointed. Sitaram was moved to the CBSE chairperson role last month after the previous incumbent was transferred amid the controversy over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
Career and Cadre Information
Sitaram is a seasoned bureaucrat with extensive experience in the AGMUT cadre, which covers Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories. His appointment as additional secretary in the home ministry marks a continuation of his service in the ministry, where he had previously held the same position before being assigned to the CBSE.
