Market Security Reinforcement Proposed After Delhi Blast

In the aftermath of the devastating blast near Red Fort Metro station that claimed 13 lives and injured over 20 people, Chandni Chowk Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal has proposed significant security enhancements for the historic market area. The BJP leader emphasized that the continued operation of shops in Chandni Chowk demonstrates resilience against attempts to create terror.

The explosion occurred on Monday near the iconic Red Fort, sending shockwaves through the capital and prompting immediate security reinforcements by Delhi Police throughout the Chandni Chowk vicinity.

Atmosphere of Precaution, Not Fear

"There is no fear, but there is an atmosphere of precaution," Khandelwal stated during his conversation with The Indian Express. The MP had earlier visited LNJP Hospital to meet with families of victims and those injured in the tragic incident.

Khandelwal revealed that trade unions operating across the market are actively collaborating with government agencies in identifying suspicious individuals. Beyond this cooperative effort, market associations are seriously considering deploying private security guards who would work in coordination with the local police station house officer (SHO).

Public-Private Security Partnership

Acknowledging the limitations faced by police forces, Khandelwal noted that while police are performing their duties effectively, they cannot be expected to be omnipresent. "The market can employ its own security according to requirement to supplement the police's efforts," he explained.

The MP made a compelling economic argument for enhanced security measures, stating that "the more the security, the more the footfall" - indicating that robust security arrangements would actually boost commercial activity rather than hinder it.

Khandelwal echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's firm assurance that those responsible for the attack would face justice. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally overseeing the situation, with Delhi Police and central agencies working tirelessly to investigate every angle of the case.

Appeal for Calm and Unity

The Chandni Chowk representative made a strong appeal for public calm and unity, urging vigilance against rumors spread by elements attempting to create panic and disturb peace. "The culprits will not escape justice - they will face the toughest punishment under the law," he affirmed.

Khandelwal also expressed appreciation for the medical and paramedical staff at the Delhi government-run LNJP Hospital, where the injured victims are receiving treatment. Their dedicated work has been crucial in managing the aftermath of this tragic event.

The proposed security enhancement would particularly focus on the Dariba carriageway within the heritage market area of Old Delhi, representing a significant step toward creating a more secure commercial environment while maintaining the vibrant character of one of Delhi's most historic markets.
