Wangchuk's Health Update on Day 12 of Hunger Strike
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, on the fourth day of his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, stated he is feeling fine but slightly tired. Doctors advised him to increase water and salt intake after low blood pressure was detected. His blood sugar level stands at 66, which he attributed to three days without food.
Wangchuk explained that ketosis has set in, causing the body to consume fats, but he is far from the stage where muscles and organs are affected. He noted a weight loss of two kilograms, with a normal daily loss of around 650 grams.
Wangchuk Compares His Condition to Student Deaths
Wangchuk emphasized that his discomfort pales in comparison to the 20+ students who lost their lives and the five youths who died in Ladakh last September. He thanked supporters for their backing.
Student Inesh Hospitalized, Now Recovering
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke reported that student Inesh, who had been on hunger strike for eight days and was hospitalized Tuesday night after his condition deteriorated, is now recovering. Dipke stated on X, "Inesh is recovering well at the hospital. Our team is in touch with him and monitoring the situation."
Dipke Attacks Government Over Accountability
Renewing his criticism, Dipke listed the triggers for the protest: countless paper leaks, millions of shattered dreams, over 20 student suicides, and a hunger strike by an educationist and youth. He alleged that India has never seen such an "arrogant" government.
AISA Reports Worsening Health Among Student Protesters
The All India Students' Association (AISA) reported that the health of students on indefinite fast is deteriorating as the fast enters its fourth day. AISA claimed JNUSU Joint Secretary Danish's blood sugar dropped to 61 mg/dL, with doctors warning of serious consequences if the fast continues. Additionally, students Aameen and Deepak were advised to stop the hunger strike due to critical blood pressure and a blood sugar level of 70, respectively.
Demand for Education Minister's Resignation
AISA demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging the government is not addressing student concerns.
Protest Background and Demands
The CJP protest began on June 20 over alleged irregularities in examination systems, including NEET. Dipke stated the agitation will also raise accountability issues related to electoral matters such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
