The Congress party has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government over the controversy surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), claiming that the 'Amrit Kaal' (golden era) has turned into 'Mrit Kaal' (death knell) for students. The opposition party demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, asserting that he is not fit for the position.
Congress demands resignation
In a statement, the Congress party said that Pradhan does not appear to be cut out for the task of managing the education sector. The party accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of focusing on publicity stunts like his annual 'Pariksha pe Charcha' extravaganza, while ignoring the real issues plaguing the examination system. The Congress called for a thorough review of exams, coining the term 'Pariksha ki Samiksha' (review of exams).
Background of the NEET row
The controversy erupted after allegations of irregularities in the NEET examination, which is conducted for admissions to medical and dental colleges across India. Students and parents have expressed concerns over the transparency and fairness of the exam process. The Congress has been vocal in criticizing the government's handling of the situation, demanding a comprehensive investigation.
Meanwhile, the BJP has defended the minister, stating that the opposition is politicizing the issue. The government has assured that all concerns will be addressed appropriately.
The Congress party's latest salvo comes as part of a broader campaign to hold the Modi government accountable for lapses in the education sector. With the NEET row gaining traction, the political battle is expected to intensify in the coming days.
