A tragic road accident on the Expressway in Kannauj claimed the life of Bhagalpur Congress district president Praveen Singh Kushwaha (52) from Bihar on Friday. The incident occurred when the driver of the car reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to crash into a divider.
Accident Details
The accident took place around 12:30 pm near kilometer number 169 in the Ranwa area under the Talgram police station jurisdiction. According to police, the car was traveling from Delhi to Patna when driver Vinod Mandal (40) dozed off, leading to loss of control. The vehicle scraped along the divider before crashing into a pillar, sustaining severe damage.
Four people were in the car: Vinod Mandal (resident of Aastha Patal Mandir, Bhagalpur district), Praveen Singh Kushwaha (resident of Bhagalpur), his sister-in-law Kumari Sapna (23, resident of Bhagalpur), and Vibhu Arya (20, resident of Shobhaganj, Sasaram, Rohtas).
Injuries and Rescue Operation
Praveen Singh Kushwaha and Kumari Sapna suffered critical injuries, while Vinod Mandal and Vibhu Arya sustained minor injuries. The Talgram police, a patrol team, the safety and recovery team, and assistant security officer Rajendra Prasad Kanaujia reached the spot with an ambulance. After first aid, the injured were taken to Tirwa medical college. Due to their critical condition, two were later referred to Kanpur.
The damaged car was removed using a crane and taken to Talgram police station. Two mobile phones found at the scene were handed over to the police. After the accident, the road was cleared and traffic was restored.
Condolences
Police station in-charge Vinay Sharma stated that the injured are undergoing treatment. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences on social media, saying: "The news of the untimely demise of Bhagalpur District Congress president and senior Congress leader Pravin Singh Kushwaha in a road accident is deeply saddening. His dedication to the organization and his commitment to public service will always be remembered. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and supporters. I stand with them in this hour of grief."
