Traffic Woes on Kathivakkam High School Road Near Ennore Bus Terminus
Daily Traffic Jams on Kathivakkam High School Road in Chennai

Chennai: Users of Kathivakkam High School Road near the Ennore bus terminus endure daily traffic jams on the stretch that is barely two lanes wide. Motorists report frequently turning off their engines and waiting for extended periods. Two-wheeler riders also suffer from exhaust smoke. The two-way road worsens when two buses attempt to pass side by side, and numerous curves force drivers to navigate slowly to avoid collisions. S Kathiresan, a resident of Nettukuppam, described it as a never-ending problem.

A drive along the road revealed several unpaved and untarred sections. Residents suggest black-topping these areas to widen the carriageway near the terminus and the urban primary health centre, a major bottleneck. Ekambaram, a resident of Ernavoor, urged widening near the terminus and removal of encroachments to create space for vehicles. Zonal officer T Padmanaban stated that some encroachments near the terminus were removed during renovation earlier this year. Widening works were initially planned but not executed, and a tender may be floated in the coming months, though he declined further comment.
