Nagpur: The decomposed bodies of a mother and her daughter were discovered inside their residence in Gadge Nagar, with police suspecting a possible sleeping pill overdose compounded by the intense heat. The deceased have been identified as Tulsabai Madhavrao Vadhai (65) and her daughter Sangita Vadhai (48). According to police, Sangita was mentally challenged.
Sequence of Events
Police revealed that Tulsabai's son is employed in Bharuch, Gujarat. On May 2, she had her last conversation with him, during which she requested a cooler. Subsequently, there was no contact from her side. On Tuesday evening, when repeated calls to his mother went unanswered, the son asked a relative to check on them. The relative noticed a foul odor emanating from the house and, after peering through a window, spotted signs of disturbance inside. The relative immediately alerted neighbors and the police.
Police Response
A team from Nandanvan police station arrived at the scene and forced open the door, only to find both bodies in a decomposed state. Preliminary findings suggest that the two may have consumed sleeping pills. Police believe the deaths occurred around May 2. No suicide note was found, and there were no visible external injuries on either body.
Investigation Underway
Police are currently probing the source of the medication and are awaiting the autopsy report to establish the exact cause of death. Foul play has been ruled out at this stage. The authorities are also investigating whether the heat wave contributed to the deterioration of the bodies.
This tragic incident highlights the importance of regular check-ins with elderly and vulnerable family members, especially during extreme weather conditions. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
