Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Launches Scathing Attack on Arvind Kejriwal
In a fiery public address at Chandni Chowk on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a blistering critique of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, asserting that "those shouting in his defence should understand that the pot of deceit will not be put on the stove again in Delhi." Gupta declared Kejriwal "guilty in the eyes of Delhi's people" and insisted he will "never be forgiven" for alleged misconduct.
Legal Challenges and Alleged Scams
Gupta cautioned Kejriwal against celebrating his recent acquittal in the liquor policy case, noting that the matter is poised to advance to the Delhi High Court. She emphasized that he must instead confront a litany of accusations, including:
- Scams involving classrooms in government schools
- Fabricated labour bills
- Irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board
- ED-related cases
- The controversial "Sheesh Mahal" project
"He may continue to defend himself, but he would have to face legal scrutiny and answer all the allegations against him," Gupta stated, sharpening her political offensive.
Contrasting Governance: BJP vs. AAP
The Chief Minister contrasted her administration's approach with that of the previous AAP government, accusing it of launching schemes without clear implementation plans. She cited the Ladli Scheme as a prime example, alleging that benefits failed to reach approximately 1.75 lakh girls.
Under her leadership, Gupta claimed the government identified legitimate beneficiaries and disbursed Rs 90 crore via direct benefit transfer to 30,000 girls, with an additional Rs 100 crore earmarked for 40,000 more. This initiative has been superseded by the Lakhpati Beti Yojana, which promises each girl Rs 1.25 lakh for educational support.
Reflecting on BJP's legacy, Gupta highlighted that the party has "worked to safeguard Delhi for the past 27 years" and consistently protested against policies detrimental to the city's welfare.
BJP Leadership Backs Gupta's Stance
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva echoed Gupta's sentiments, lambasting AAP for delivering "zero development" during its 11-year tenure in Delhi and three-and-a-half years in Punjab. "Yet they do not speak about that; instead, they want to question the one-year-old BJP govt in Delhi," Sachdeva remarked.
He further criticized Kejriwal for habitually blaming the BJP for diverse issues, even extending to international matters like Israel and America, despite AAP's electoral setbacks in states such as Gujarat and Goa.
Showcasing BJP's Development Agenda
Sachdeva praised Chief Minister Gupta for setting a unique precedent by presenting her government's report card to the public across all seven parliamentary constituencies within seven days. He detailed substantial developmental undertakings, including:
- Infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores through the Public Works Department, Delhi Jal Board, flood control, and transport departments
- Allocation of Rs 100 crore as a separate fund to each assembly constituency, empowering public representatives
- New schemes valued at nearly Rs 1 lakh crore, encompassing a sewage master plan, new sewage treatment plants, Yamuna cleaning initiatives, road enhancements, new buses, and citizen-centric house tax and DJB reforms
This comprehensive development push, Sachdeva asserted, underscores the BJP government's commitment to transformative progress in Delhi, starkly diverging from what he termed AAP's legacy of unfulfilled promises and alleged malpractices.
