Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to Unveil One-Year Governance Report Card
New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to complete her first year in office this Friday, marking the occasion with a significant event at the Delhi Secretariat. She, along with her cabinet colleagues, will release a detailed report card that comprehensively outlines the government's work across various key departments over the past twelve months. This report aims to provide transparency and accountability to the public regarding the administration's accomplishments and ongoing initiatives.
Political Background and Major Health Initiative
Gupta and her ministers were sworn into office on February 20 last year, following the BJP's return to power in Delhi after a hiatus of 27 years. The report card, scheduled for unveiling on Friday afternoon, is expected to prominently feature the rollout of the Ayushman Arogya Yojana in Delhi. This health scheme has registered over seven lakh residents so far, with nearly 25,000 individuals having received medical treatment under its provisions, demonstrating a strong commitment to public healthcare.
Welfare Schemes and Educational Infrastructure
In addition to healthcare, the report will highlight the launch of 70 Atal Canteens, which provide subsidized meals at just Rs 5 each to support affordable food access for the urban poor. The government will also list the free LPG cylinder distribution scheme for low-income households during festive seasons like Holi and Diwali. Furthermore, the inauguration of 75 CM SHRI schools will be showcased, emphasizing efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and accessibility for Delhi's residents.
Environmental and Industrial Focus
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasized that the government has focused on both policy formulation and execution across multiple sectors. Highlighting work in environment and industry, Sirsa stated, "Whether it is industrial redevelopment, environmental reforms, anti-smog measures, mechanized cleaning, infrastructure expansion, or ensuring welfare schemes reach eligible residents, action was taken across sectors. Our priority remains reducing pollution, redeveloping roads, clearing garbage mountains, and stopping untreated sewage from flowing into the Yamuna. We are committed to delivering long-term improvements."
Transport and Infrastructure Developments
In the transport sector, the Delhi government will showcase the addition of 2,000 e-buses to the public fleet within one year and advance orders for 4,200 more. This initiative is claimed to create the country's largest electric-bus network, promoting sustainable urban mobility. On infrastructure, the report may highlight how the government set in motion a major Rs 56,000 crore drainage overhaul project to replace aging sewer and stormwater systems. It will also include details on clearing pending metro dues and reviving stalled projects, such as the Barapullah corridor.
Environmental Protection Measures
On the environmental front, the report is expected to detail how 22 of Delhi's 35 sewage treatment plants (STPs) were upgraded, and work began on 37 decentralized STPs to prevent untreated sewage from flowing into the Yamuna. In the fight against air pollution, the Delhi government will highlight its structured dust-control plan, plantation drives involving 35 lakh trees, and the notification of 4,200 hectares of Ridge area as forest land, underscoring a multi-faceted approach to ecological conservation.
