Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Chairs High-Level MCD Review Meeting
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presided over a crucial high-level review of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) works, with a sharp focus on enhancing sanitation and waste management systems across the capital. The meeting, held in New Delhi, brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for transforming Delhi into a cleaner and more modern urban center.
Outcome-Driven Implementation Emphasized
During the review, Chief Minister Gupta stressed the critical importance of outcome-driven implementation, asserting that Delhi's transformation into a clean and modern city hinges entirely on effective execution at the ground level. She highlighted that mere planning is insufficient without tangible results that benefit residents directly.
Key Attendees and Budget Support Announced
The high-level meeting was attended by Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, senior officials, and MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar. In a significant move, Chief Minister Gupta assured full budget support for redeveloping approximately 1,000 public toilets and urinal blocks across the city. This initiative aims to improve public hygiene and accessibility for all citizens.
Modernizing Waste Management Infrastructure
To modernize waste management, Chief Minister Gupta issued orders for the priority development of waste-to-energy plants at four key locations: Ghazipur, Narela, Okhla, and Tehkhand. These facilities are expected to convert municipal solid waste into renewable energy, addressing both disposal challenges and energy needs simultaneously.
Stricter Enforcement Against Littering
Chief Minister Gupta called for stricter enforcement measures against littering, advocating for stronger monitoring systems and increased penalties for violators. She emphasized that maintaining cleanliness requires a combination of public awareness and rigorous regulatory action to deter irresponsible behavior.
Progress and Improvements in Waste Management
While acknowledging progress in construction and demolition waste management, Chief Minister Gupta urged officials to enhance recycling and reuse efforts through the adoption of advanced technologies. She pointed out that sustainable waste handling is essential for environmental conservation and resource optimization.
Enhancing Road Construction Quality
In addition to sanitation and waste management, Chief Minister Gupta stressed the need to improve road construction quality across Delhi. She suggested assigning zone-wise responsibilities to larger, more experienced firms to ensure higher standards and durability in infrastructure projects.
The comprehensive review underscores the administration's commitment to urban development and public welfare, with a clear roadmap for actionable improvements in key municipal services.
