Delhi CM Warns of Budget Cuts for Underperforming Depts

New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday directed all Delhi government departments to accelerate the implementation of announcements made in the Budget 2026-27 and public welfare schemes. During a high-level review meeting, she warned officials that departments failing to properly utilize allocated funds could face cuts in future budgetary allocations. The Chief Minister asked department heads to regularly monitor the progress of work.

Meeting Conducted via Video Conferencing

Senior officials and heads of departments attended the meeting through video conferencing. The Chief Minister also participated from her home, as the Delhi government observed work from home on Wednesday as part of the ongoing austerity measures being adopted by the administration.

Strict Warning on Welfare Works

“No negligence in public welfare works will be tolerated,” the Chief Minister said while reviewing the status of various flagship projects and welfare schemes.

Monsoon Preparedness Reviewed

An official said that monsoon preparedness figured prominently during the meeting. Chief Minister Gupta directed civic and infrastructure agencies to complete desilting and cleaning of all small and major drains before the onset of monsoon, which typically starts by the end of June or early July in Delhi.

Austerity Measures Continue

The work-from-home directive is part of the Delhi government’s broader austerity measures aimed at reducing expenditure. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for efficient use of resources and timely completion of projects.
