In a closely fought contest in Thirumayam (Assembly Constituency 181), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Regupathy S secured victory after all 22 rounds of EVM counting. Regupathy polled 58,201 votes, winning by a narrow margin of 1,492 votes over his nearest rival. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Chinthamani C finished a close second with 56,709 votes, keeping the contest alive till the final rounds. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) nominee Vairamuthu P.K came in third with 55,464 votes.
