On the third day of activist Sonam Wangchuk's indefinite hunger strike at the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest in Delhi's Jantar Mantar, the attending doctor dismissed social media allegations that Wangchuk had consumed chicken soup during the night. Dr Satish Lamba, who examined Wangchuk on Tuesday morning, stated that the activist's medical parameters contradicted such claims.
Medical Examination Findings
Dr Lamba reported that Wangchuk's temperature was normal, blood pressure was 117/60 mmHg, oxygen saturation was 96 per cent, and pulse rate was 92 per minute. However, his blood sugar level was recorded at 66 mg/dL, which the doctor described as concerning. "I would say that if that had happened, his fasting blood sugar would not have been as low as 66. This itself does not support that theory," Dr Lamba said, referring to the chicken soup allegation.
Blood Sugar Levels Under Scrutiny
The doctor emphasized that even if the reading is considered random because Wangchuk has been consuming water, the level remains low at 66 mg/dL. He suggested a follow-up test after four hours to further confirm the absence of food intake. "If it remains around the same level, then this theory is completely false," he added. The medical update comes as Wangchuk continues his hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak issue.
Protest Demands and Health Monitoring
Wangchuk's health has been monitored daily since the fast began. The activist is protesting against the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, calling for accountability from the education minister. The CJP-led protest at Jantar Mantar has drawn attention to the issue, with supporters and medical staff present to ensure Wangchuk's safety.
