Arbaz Khan, a dumper driver accused of recklessly driving a stone-laden vehicle on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Noida, was arrested by police on Friday with the help of local intelligence, according to officials.
Incident Details
On June 18, Khan was driving the dumper negligently at high speed when stones and gravel loaded in the vehicle fell onto the expressway. The debris scattered across the road led to tyre punctures in several passing vehicles and caused traffic congestion on the busy corridor, police said.
Legal Action
Following complaints and an investigation, police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the BNS related to rash and negligent driving, endangering public safety, and creating obstruction on a public roadway. The dumper, bearing a Rajasthan registration plate linked to the incident, was also seized.
Arrest and Safety Concerns
Police launched a search operation and found Khan near an underpass on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, where he was taken into custody. Police officials said the incident could have resulted in a serious road accident and highlighted the dangers posed by overloaded or improperly secured construction material transported on highways.
Authorities' Appeal
Authorities urged commercial vehicle drivers and transport operators to follow safety norms and ensure that construction materials are properly covered and secured before transit. The arrest underscores the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations on expressways to prevent such incidents in the future.
