A 50-year-old e-rickshaw driver named Mohd Nanhe was lifted nearly 50 feet into the air and carried about 100 meters by strong storm winds on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred in Bamiana village under Bhaumora police station area in Bareilly district. Nanhe had gone to a wedding hall to collect goods when the weather suddenly worsened. He tied a rope to a tin shed to prevent it from being uprooted, but the gusts proved too strong, and the shed broke loose, lifting him with it.
The Incident
Nanhe remained airborne for about seven seconds before the wind dropped him in a nearby sugarcane field. He briefly lost consciousness after the impact but later stated that the crop softened his fall and saved him from more serious injuries. He sustained fractures in his hand and leg. While airborne, he feared he would never see his children again.
Viral Video
The entire incident was recorded by 16-year-old Rajan Ansari, a resident of the same village, who was filming the storm from his rooftop. The clip quickly spread beyond Bamiana village, appearing on news channels and circulating across social media platforms such as X, Instagram, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn. Viewers marveled at his survival, calling him the 'Bareilly flying man'.
Aftermath
Nanhe was initially taken to a private hospital and discharged later that night after his condition stabilized. However, his family said he was readmitted the following afternoon after his health deteriorated. He lives with his wife Anjum Begum, two daughters, and three sons, and earns his livelihood by driving an e-rickshaw.
For villagers, the video captured both the force of the storm and the narrowness of Nanhe's escape. What began as an attempt to save a tin shed became a scene watched across social media, with users finding it hard to believe that he survived a fall from such a height with only fractures.
