Government's Firm Stance
Speaking to the media, Fadnavis emphasized that the state government will not tolerate any form of black-marketing or unfair practices in fuel distribution. He directed authorities to conduct strict surveillance and take immediate action against those found involved in such activities. The deputy chief minister also urged citizens to report any suspicious sales or hoarding to the nearest district administration or police station.
Ensuring Diesel for Farmers
Fadnavis assured the farming community that the government has made adequate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted diesel supply for agricultural operations, especially during the ongoing sowing season. He stated that the state's fuel reserves are sufficient, and there is no need for panic buying. The administration has been instructed to prioritize fuel allocation for farm machinery and irrigation pumps.
The sudden spike in sales has been attributed to rumors of potential shortages, leading to unnecessary hoarding by some individuals. Fadnavis warned that such anti-social elements would face legal consequences, including potential imprisonment and heavy fines under the Essential Commodities Act.
