BJP's Piyush Goyal Dismisses Actor Vijay's Impact on Tamil Nadu Polls
Goyal: Film Stars Come & Go, No Impact on Tamil Nadu Polls

Union Minister and BJP's Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal on Saturday firmly dismissed any potential impact of actor Vijay in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state, stating that film stars come and go without leaving a lasting political mark.

Film Stars' Political Influence Questioned

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Goyal expressed skepticism about Vijay's ability to influence the electoral outcome. "I do not know what impact he will have on the elections. We have seen many film stars come and go," Goyal stated, emphasizing the distinction between popularity and political success.

The minister elaborated on this point, noting that "having fan following and converting them into votes is a totally different story." He revealed that the BJP sees no need to actively woo the actor, maintaining that political organization and administrative credibility matter more than celebrity appeal.

Historical Precedents Cited

Goyal pointed to previous examples to support his argument, specifically mentioning actor-politician Kamal Haasan's political journey. "We have seen many film stars, we have seen Kamal Haasan come without any impact," he remarked, suggesting that celebrity status alone doesn't guarantee electoral success.

The minister stressed that sustainable political influence requires "organisation, people's understanding and confidence in you as an administrator" rather than temporary popularity based on film fame.

Confidence in NDA Alliance Prospects

Goyal expressed strong confidence in the BJP's prospects in Tamil Nadu as part of the AIADMK-led NDA alliance. He claimed the ruling DMK government faces significant anti-incumbency sentiment that will work against them in the upcoming elections.

"There is so much anti-incumbency against the DMK government. It is an incompetent and terribly corrupt government," Goyal asserted, launching a direct attack on the current administration.

Criticism of DMK Leadership

The BJP leader specifically targeted Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin in his remarks. "Udhayanidhi Stalin represents a totally anti-Tamil culture and anti-India stance," Goyal claimed, drawing a sharp contrast with what he described as traditional Tamil values.

He elaborated on this criticism, stating that "Tamil culture never spoke in the kind of language that he is using. Tamil culture teaches us tolerance. It teaches us to celebrate different viewpoints, different thinking, different ideologies and different religions."

Alliance Dynamics and Governance Contrast

Goyal highlighted what he sees as growing divisions within the DMK's alliance structure. "The discordant notes among their alliance partners are also visible," he observed, suggesting internal tensions that could weaken their electoral position.

In contrast, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approach to governance, stating that "Prime Minister Modi never discriminates between people. He gives benefits to all, irrespective of the time of the year or the election period."

Vision for Tamil Nadu's Future

The Union Minister concluded with a positive outlook for the AIADMK-led NDA alliance. "I am very confident that the AIADMK-led NDA alliance, in which the BJP is an important partner, is going to win this election and would bring back good governance," Goyal declared, positioning the alliance as the solution to what he described as the DMK government's failures.

Goyal's comments reflect the BJP's strategic positioning in Tamil Nadu politics, where they aim to capitalize on anti-incumbency while downplaying the influence of celebrity politicians from the film industry.
