Kanpur: Three individuals, including the groom, have been arrested and sent to jail for causing a disturbance at a police station and assaulting a head constable in Hamirpur district's Muskara town. The incident followed the death of a nine-year-old boy who was run over by a speeding truck during a wedding ceremony on Thursday.
Incident Details
According to Vikram Rajput, a resident of Chandursi in Jalaun, the wedding of his younger brother Deepak was being held in Muskara. He said his brother-in-law, Rajkumar, his sister, and their nine-year-old son Aniket had attended the ceremony. After the jaimal ritual, they left the venue to return to Orai. As they were getting into a vehicle, a speeding truck ran over Aniket, killing him instantly.
Immediate Aftermath
The tragedy sparked angry protests from relatives and guests, who placed the child's body on the road, leading to a traffic blockade that lasted approximately three hours. Eyewitnesses reported that enraged relatives and guests chased the truck and intercepted it near the Community Health Centre in Muskara. While the driver managed to flee, the helper was caught and allegedly beaten by the crowd before being handed over to PRB 112 police personnel.
Police Station Ruckus
Later, family members reached the police station and demanded that the accused helper be handed over to them. When the helper was not produced, they created a ruckus. During the commotion, a man recording a video was reportedly struck on the head with a stick, and his mobile phone was smashed. Head constable Muharrir Dinesh Kumar was allegedly grabbed by the collar, dragged out, and assaulted.
Police Response
Police forces from several stations arrived to bring the situation under control and pacified the matter using mild force. Three separate FIRs have been registered, naming 35 unidentified persons as accused. The matter drew further attention after videos of the police station ruckus went viral on social media.
Arrests Made
Police arrested three accused: Deepak (the groom), Vikram, and Vinod. They have been sent to jail.
