Gurgaon: After days of rising heat, the city experienced a sharp drop in both day and night temperatures on Friday, as changing weather systems signaled relief ahead of a spell of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light rain across the state next week.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city's maximum temperature settled at 34.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, down by nearly 3.8 degrees Celsius from the previous day. The minimum temperature was recorded at 20.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.7 degrees below the previous day, reflecting the broader cooling trend across the state.
Cooling Trend Across Haryana
Across Haryana, the average maximum temperature fell by 2.3 degrees Celsius and remained 2.8 degrees below normal, while the average minimum temperature dropped by 2.8 degrees and stayed 2.1 degrees below normal. Mahendragarh was the hottest location in the state, recording a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius.
Cause of the Change
The IMD attributed the changing conditions to a fresh western disturbance likely to affect the western Himalayan region from May 2, which is expected to alter weather patterns across Haryana.
Forecast for the Coming Days
The department has forecast mainly dry weather for Haryana on May 1, but isolated light rain is likely on May 2, 3, 6, and 7, with a few places expected to receive rainfall on May 4 and 5. Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places on May 2 and May 7, while stronger winds of 40 to 50 kmph may occur between May 3 and May 6.
Temperature Fluctuations
Meteorologists said maximum temperatures may rise by around 2 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours before falling by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius thereafter under the influence of storm activity.
